Kalyug (2013, 74min; Hindi, Bhili OVmU)
"The spirit Maneto descended upon the earth. The humans cried out in terror. The eagle Gardan Udhi flew away instantly to fetch chunks of meat to please the demon..."
The villagers listen closely to every word the old man says. He tells tales of the dark age Kalyug; about the tragic princess Zahama; about the mighty plague demons and about the healer who owns the power to tame them.
The Bhil are an indigenous people settled in the plains of western-central India. Disoriented in time and space they roam the no man's land between their old world and the roaring and raging of modern India.
Three mythic principles transform into three individual stories about loss, guilt, dignity, hope and being human in midst of mayhem.
We travel through the Bhil's district, along the frontline between ghosts and diseases, prostitutes and princesses; On the backseat of a motorbike, in the driver's cab of a truck or just floating about the vast and beautiful land
